Greek Orthodox Wedding in Boulder, Colorado

Getting Ready – Bailey and Chad

Bailey and Chad both got ready at the St. Julian Hotel & Spa in Boulder, Colorado. Each had their closest friends with them also preparing for the day.

When I met Bailey, I was instantly drawn to her charisma and intelligence. I had so much fun chatting with her and her friends while they got ready. Additionally, her open, honest, and kind demeanor made for some deep conversations throughout their day.

Chad was quieter than Bailey but possessed the same admirable qualities. Their energy seemed to balance each other’s, and it was incredible to watch them throughout the day. I am so honored to have been a part of this wonderful day!

Bailey + Chad – Details

Bailey and Chad’s wedding had some of the most gorgeous details. Their reception took place on a lot behind their church building, and I am still floored by how they transformed the simple space through the beautiful clear tent with the string lights, the candle-lit sweetheart table, and the beautiful floral arrangments on each table. Chad and Bailey hired the incredible Fox & Crow, who created these unique “jarcuterie” pieces (charcuterie in a jar!), which was such a unique detail and a hit amongst the wedding guests.

Bailey – First Look with Father

Bailey had two “first looks” during her day. The first was with her dad before the wedding ceremony. It was such a special moment. In recent years, I’ve loved seeing clients who choose to have first looks with their family members as well as with their future spouse! It’s a wonderful way to acknowledge that your wedding day is special for family members, too.

Chad + Bailey – Ceremony

Bailey and Chad had a traditional Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony. Greek Orthodox ceremonies have an emphasis on threes, so most events are repeated three times. Each part is symbolic. Additionally, the priest performs the ceremony in Greek and sings periodically throughout the entire event. Not only is the ceremony an auditory treat, but it is also a visually enchanting ceremony due to the beautiful art pieces on the walls and ceiling.

Bailey + Chad – Couple Portraits

These two, now a married couple, decided to head out to an open space for their first portraits as wife and husband. Sometimes your venue doesn’t have the backdrop you envisioned for your couple’s portraits, so two good options are either 1.) Taking day-after wedding portraits or 2.) Dedicating a larger portion of your timeline to portraits to make room for travel to and from the location.

Option 1.) Day-after wedding portraits can involve driving to multiple locations or hiking to a spectacular view. This option is perfect for making sure you get to spend your wedding day with your wedding guests and saving everything with just you two for a separate day. However, it might not be the best option if you have travel plans directly after your wedding day.

Option 2.) Bailey and Chad’s wedding venue was their gorgeous church building. The building had a pretty view of the mountains, but it wasn’t quite what the two had pictured for their portraits. Boulder is full of gorgeous locations, so we decided to drive 20 minutes away for an even better view. The field and mountain combination in these photos is perfectly representative of their home in Colorado, a state that is made up of roughly 2/5 plains and 2/5 mountains [and 1/5 Colorado plateaus (from The Geography of Colorado)]. Dedicating 40 minutes of their timeline to travel made for stunning portraits of the two of them, and allowed them some time to relax together.

Chad + Bailey – Boulder, CO Wedding Reception

These two had a lively backyard wedding reception, complete with toasts from their family and friends, first dances, and Bailey singing a song for her father. It was a beautiful way to end a beautiful day!

Bailey + Chad – First Dance

Chad and Bailey danced together for the first time as wife and husband while Bailey’s childhood voice coach sang for them. It was a touching and personal collection of moments.

Father + Daughter Dance and Mother + Son Dance

Both Chad and Bailey shared special connections with their parents, which they showcased through their dances together. Dancing with your family members, whether it be with your siblings, parent figures, or other important people in your life, is another special way to include them in your wedding day. It is always important to tell those you love how much they mean to you, and having them be a part of your wedding is one way to show them the value you place on your relationship. Because of this, these dances always seem to elicit some of the most joyful and sentimental tears from guests.

Bailey – Singing a Song for Her Father

One of my favorite parts of this day was finding out that Bailey is an incredible singer!! Near the end of the night, she joined the band on stage and sang “Aint No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. I loved this personal touch to the reception.

Bailey + Chad – Cake Cutting

The cake-cutting wedding tradition has been around for hundreds of years, with roots in Ancient Rome. While many people may not know the many symbols behind wedding cakes and cutting the wedding cake (read more by clicking here), it is still a fun tradition I love to see at weddings. Bailey and Chad had a beautiful cake by Cāk the Bakery, a local small business.

Open Dancing

Chad, Bailey, and their wedding guests finished the night with some open dancing. I love these shots I took quite a bit away from the tent because you can spot the married couple dancing amongst their loved ones. A beautiful ending to a special day!

The Volks!

Congratulations to Bailey and Chad Volk! I am so thrilled to have been a part of this wedding.
